Reuben: What does my neighborhood with the rest of the world?
In most (urban) neighborhoods in the Netherlands you can see on the nameplates that different nationalities living in the Netherlands. Many of them have long ago moved to the Netherlands, for example, people from Indonesia and Suriname. In the movie Ruben runs through a street in Amsterdam and see names that probably originated in France, Indonesia, Turkey and Germany.
Negesty and Stenna: "We are going to the fruits of our village show '
Negesty Stenna and live in the interior of Suriname. In their immediate environment to grow many tropical fruits. They live in the Amazon, where biodiversity is enormous. Within the area is a tension between economic forces (logging and my building) and nature (conservation of wildlife and especially the fact that the Amazon is important for the global oxygen production). Worldwide increasing belief that we need to find a good balance between people and nature.
Yashila: "The Netherlands has people from Indonesia to get to work here '
In the video explains how the different ethnic groups in Suriname have ended there. Jonathan's ancestors come from Africa (Ghana), the ancestors of Yashila from India. They were met by the Dutch to Suriname to work. Living in Suriname also many Chinese and Javanese, it is a country with great diversity in populations. The original inhabitants, the Indians have become a minority.
